If you have a salaried position or are on a monthly retainer with a company, it is likely that you will be paid without submitting an invoice (though it’s important to confirm). If you are a freelance or contract writer, you almost always must submit an invoice to be paid.

    WHEN SHOULD I SUBMIT MY FREELANCE WRITING INVOICE?

    Different companies have different policies on when you should submit your invoice. Some prefer all invoices to be sent at the end of the month, while others will process invoices as soon as you complete your writing work. Check with the company or client to confirm when they prefer to get their invoice.

    AS A FREELANCE WRITER, WHAT DO I NEED TO INCLUDE IN MY INVOICE?

    In order to get paid promptly, you must include certain pieces of information in your freelance writing invoice. First, you’ll need to include the name, address, and phone number of the company or person you are invoicing, as well as for yourself (or your small business).
